NOIDA: In a move to inspire school girls, walls of junior schools under the basic education department will soon get covered with stories of women achievers like former prime minister Indira Gandhi,
Kiran Bedi, Arati Saha,
Kalpana Chawla
, PT Usha,
Karnam Malleswari
, PV Sindhu,
Mary Kom, etc.
The walls will be ready by July. The women achievers will be from different periods and across fields such as science, history, polity and arts, etc., and help increase self-esteem, confidence, and self-reliance among school girls.
The move comes under the Mission Shakti 4 Abhiyan. As part of it, students will also learn about domestic violence, violence against children, sexual violence, molestation, helpline numbers, etc. Newly-admitted girls will learn about personal and menstrual hygiene and their management.
“School girls can now seek inspiration from the women achievers of India, whose life stories and achievements will be on display on the walls, along with their pictures. Each junior school under the district basic education department will develop the walls. Work will begin after June 16 when schools reopen for the new academic session and will likely be over by July,” said Aishwarya Lakshmi, district basic education officer (DBEO), GB Nagar.
The move is being organised under the chief minister’s 100-day action plan and focus on the promotion of the girl child. “The life and philosophy of the famous women will give the girls the strength to fulfil their dreams. We will also hold events like painting and debate competition,” said Lakshmi. There are plans to have a ‘Bal Sansad’ (children’s parliament) and a ‘Meena Manch’ on the last day of the week.
