NOIDA: The Greater Noida police arrested a 30-year-old person for allegedly assaulting a 28-year-old woman in a high-rise society under the jurisdiction of Dadri police station on Saturday. The action was taken after the video of the incident went viral on social media platforms.
According to police, the accused was identified as Surya Bhadana, a resident of Omaxe Palm Green in Dadri.
An 18-second video clip was widely circulated on social media platforms on Saturday.
It showed a man wearing a striped t-shirt and shorts grabbing a woman by her hair with his left hand and slapping her multiple times.
When locals intervened, the man left the spot while hurling abuses. The man's t-shirt also appeared to be torn. The video garnered millions of views on social media platform X, formerly known as Twitter.
Noida police takes actionSujeet Upadhayay, SHO of Dadri police station, said that police took suo-moto action on the video and confirmed the incident with other residents of the society. The video is 10 days old, and the woman is a resident of Delhi. The accused was arrested under section 170 BNS.
“Both were known to each other for the last eight years, and they completed their graduation from Delhi University together. We called the woman for a statement, and so far she didn't make any complaint,” he said.
"Taking cognisance of the viral video of a man assaulting his female friend in Omaxe Palm Green Society of Thana Dadri area, the Dadri Police Station immediately took the accused into custody. The boy and the girl were already acquainted with each other and studied together in college. Further legal action is being taken," the police said on X.
