Auto-cracy: No parking yet, road near metro stns choked

Noida: Days after Noida Authority CEO Lokesh M cracked the whip, unauthorised autorickshaw stands continue to operate outside Sectors 51 and 52 metro stations. The auto stands have been a major cause of traffic jams along the stretch. The CEO, during his visit to the metro station last week, had asked the officials to remove the stands in coordination with Noida traffic police. Officials said they planned a drive again-st unauthorised parking and encroachment of the main road.Sunil Mishra, a commuter at the Sector 51 metro station, said, “It might be convenient for the passengers boarding from the metro station to get an auto-rickshaw just outside the station, but it is a traffic hazard as the parking occupies a major portion of the road.”“If the auto-rickshaws are assigned a specific parking place, it will help ease out the traffic,” said another commuter.To add to the traffic chaos, street vendors along both metro stations also are a reason for the traffic jams since they have also encroached on the space causing random parking.The CEO had instructed the deputy general manager (civil) to coordinate with the police department to ensure that the illegal auto stand operating must be removed and is not allowed to operate there again.An escalator and travelator will be installed at the metro stations by the end of March 2024, said the CEO.The condition of the footpath from the underpass towards Sector 51 was also found to be poor. The paint of the central verge has also faded. The Noida Authority will soon start the repair work on the footpath.
