NOIDA: Two brothers were detained on Tuesday for strangling a 23-year-old man to death and throwing his body into a canal in the Surajpur area of
Greater Noida
.
The victim,
Robin
, was allegedly was in a relationship with the sister of the two accused, police said.
According to the police, Robin went missing from his house at
Pali
village on Sunday night after he went to meet the woman, a neighbour. Around 11 am on Monday, Robin’s family submitted a missing complaint.
“Preliminary inquiry indicated that Robin had gone to meet the woman, who is married and lives nearby. We obtained Robin’s call detail record (CDR), which showed that the man spoke to the woman around 10 pm on Sunday before leaving his house,” additional deputy commissioner of police (Central Noida) Elamaran G said.
On Tuesday, the police questioned the woman’s family and detained her brothers. During questioning, the duo told cops that they saw Robin at their house with their sister following which a brawl broke out between them.
“During the argument, the two accused overpowered Robin and strangled him to death. Later, they disposed of his body in a nearby canal. We pressed in a team of divers to look for Robin’s body but couldn’t find it till late Tuesday. The missing complaint will be converted into murder charges only after the body is found,” Elamaran said.
Meanwhile, Robin’s family members along with local villagers blocked the National Highway- 91 on Tuesday accusing the police of apathy.
“Robin could have been saved or his body found had the cops acted on time. Now, we don’t even know if he is alive or not,” a family member said. Robin, the relative said, was set to tie the knots on April 18.
DCP Central Noida Harish Chander said there was no delay in action. “The family members blocked the road for about one hour but left after our assurances,” he said.
