Told to go slow, biker shoots neighbour

JEWAR (GREATER NOIDA): Told to drive slowly through the residential area by his neighbour, a young biker fetched a country-made pistol from his home and allegedly shot the neighbour in the stomach on Thursday morning.
The victim, 56-year-old Giriraj Sharma who runs a garment store in the area, underwent an operation at Kailash Hospital to remove the bullet and is stable, though still in ICU.
The biker, Divesh, in his early 20s, often zipped through the narrow lanes of Gopal Garh village, eyewitnesses said. Police said Divesh and his family are absconding since the shooting.
“Giriraj Sharma was standing outside his house around 8am when the biker sped past. He told the youngster to drive slowly in the narrow lane where children were playing. Angered by the suggestion, the accused brought a pistol and opened fire on the victim,” said SP (rural) Ashok Kumar.
Police have registered a case of attempt to murder under section 307 of IPC at the Jewar police station.
The victim’s younger son, Kuldeep Sharma, described Divesh as a notorious person. “He is often seen driving rashly in the area and has hit pedestrians on several occasions,” he told TOI.
Said Giriraj’s elder son Hari, “On hearing the sound of a bullet, I ran to the house and found my father in a pool of blood. We immediately took him to a private hospital in where doctors conducted an operation to save his life.
A doctor at Kailash Hospital said the victim was out of danger. “He was shot in the stomach. The bullet has been extracted. He is under observation in the ICU,” the doctor said.
Sharma has three sons. The eldest, Hari, is an engineer working in a company manufacturing helicopters. The second son, Pradeep, is a physician while Kuldeep is a HR professional at a company in Greater Noida.
