NOIDA: Police have so far not made any headway in the case of murder of 38-year-old Anita Adhikari, whose body was found in her house in Rajat Vihar on Tuesday. The autopsy report confirmed that the death must have occurred between 12.30pm and 2pm after her throat was slit, but the motive behind the murder has yet to be ascertained, police said.
The husband of the deceased, Madan Singh Adhikari, said his wife was a friendly person.
"She used to be home six days a week and was very helpful and talkative. She used to help sweepers and painters, among others, in the area. I suspect that my wife was killed by some burglar who got noticed by her," Adhikari said.
"Recently there was a painting job going on in a flat in the vicinity. The painters requested my wife for tea and my wife readily obliged. Many a time, we had advised her not to open the gate for unknown people," he said. Adhikari, an entrepreneur based in Noida, said they had been living in Noida since 1995 and had no enmity with anyone. They used to live in Sector 22 with their two children and had shifted to Rajat Vihar two years ago.
According to police, there are angles to the case. SP Yogesh Singh said one is loot, second is the dead woman's husband's business rivalry and the third is some old feud.
What has baffled the police is that while it looks a clear case of robbery, as some jewellery and Rs 25,000 cash was missing, the jewellery on the victim's body was left untouched. Also, Anita was found with her hands tied with sellotape. "Attempts were made to stop the bleeding by applying sellotape on the injuries," said DSP Vishwajeet Srivastav. The crime scene suggested that the criminal was known to the victim, he said.
"Several teams, including our crime branch team, are working on the case but so far we have not got any important lead," Singh said.
As the CCTV cameras in the locality were not working, Srivastav said, "We are questioning those people also, who are involved in operating the CCTVs. According to the register at the entry gate, on Tuesday by 2pm nearly 70 people had visited the society. The cops are questioning those visitors."
