Techie among 3 held with 289 ecstasy pills worth Rs 25 lakh in Noida, 3 more on the run
NOIDA: Police claimed to have busted a synthetic drug supply chain with the arrests of three people, including a woman engineer, on Sunday night and recovered 289 MDMA pills, costing nearly Rs 25 lakh, from them.
Three more suspects are on the run, said police, adding that the gang bought the pills through the dark web and supplied them to secret rave parties in Delhi-NCR.
On a tip-off, police arrested Pulkit Kapoor, a resident of sector 120, from near the HP petrol pump in Phase 3 on Sunday night. “He told us about the supply network, after which we arrested Abhishek Chauhan, a resident of Mamura, and Pooja Gupta, a resident of Sector 61, from outside Gupta’s residence,” said DCP (central Noida) Ram Badan Singh, adding that Gupta is a computer engineer working with a private firm as a consultant.
ACP Amit Pratap Singh told TOI that the pills, sent from the Netherlands, came in a box with an Afghanistan address on it. “The arrested accused revealed that they procured the drugs from a person named Didipya, who, along with two more suspects—Suryansh and Pranay, is at large. These three likely purchased the MDMA from the Netherlands through the dark web,” the ACP said.
Police said the three arrested persons sold the pills on a small scale after procuring them from the absconding accused. “Chauhan paid the absconding accused through Gupta’s account. We are now checking Gupta’s transaction details, but most deals were through cash. Pulkit met Abhishek at a party and got involved with the gang. The three arrested supplied pills on demand and also sold them through suppliers. Sometimes, they carried pills to parties in Noida and Gurgaon. The details of procurement sources, mode of payment, etc., are under investigation,” said Amit.
Police lodged an FIR under provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances (NDPS) Act at the Phase 3 police station. The ACP said the Delhi Narcotics Control Bureau is looking for the absconding accused too.
