Docs perform robotic surgery, remove cancer cells in tongue

Noida: Doctors at a private hospital in the city removed cancerous cells from the base of a man’s tongue using robotic surgery.Samarpal Singh, a 67-year-old resident of Meerut, was first diagnosed with oral cancer in Nov 2022, prompting him to undergo a series of treatments, including chemotherapy and radiotherapy over the course of around six weeks in Meerut.Despite initial signs of progress, the cancer recurred in Sept 2023, presenting a formidable challenge to conventional treatment modalities, his doctors told TOI. In Jan 2024, after Singh’s condition saw no improvement for several months, he finally decided to consult doctors at Fortis Hospital in the city.Doctors said Singh underwent several cycles of immunotherapy — a testament to the advancements made in contemporary cancer care. “Yet, the tenacity of the disease demanded a paradigm shift in treatment strategy,” a doctor said.Dr Shubham Garg, director of surgical oncology at Fortis Hospital, Noida, advocated for robotic surgery as the beacon of hope for combating Singh’s cancer. “Robotic surgery offers unparalleled precision and manoeuvrability, owing to its sophisticated instrumentation,” he said.The procedure was successful and Singh was discharged within four days of his surgery last week and has returned to his usual day-to-day activity.

They have developed a nutraceutical made from copper and grapes/berries that neutralizes cfChPs. Encouraging results have been published in the indexed journal Medical Oncology.
