The victim and his family have now returned to Kanpur and they say that they will shift him to another accommodation subsequently.
“We have taken him back to home since he is disturbed. We will consider where to admit him next. He has his exams starting from 13th, he needs stability,” Aman’s mother Rashmi Hanspal told TOI. An FIR was registered against four students Rituraj Kumar, Saurabh Kumar, Satyam Rahul and Andrew, all of whom were staying in the Aryan Residency Hostel of Knowledge Park area. On Monday night, police arrested three of the main accused in the case, Rituraj, Satyam and Andrew, who were produced before a Chief Judicial Magistrate (CJM) court in Surajpur court on Tuesday.
They were granted bail by the court in the evening. Meanwhile, police are examining the CCTV footage from the hostel to examine how Aman was taken to room number 607 on the eighth floor, where he was allegedly beaten up by his seniors for around four hours from the escalator.
Police sources said that a few more students have come forward admitting to similar instances of ragging being witnessed in the hostel premises.
“There are a few students who have admitted that they were instances of slapping, etc while playing by their seniors. But, they did not lodge a formal complaint,” a police officer told TOI. Meanwhile, Aryan Residency officials said that they have informed authorities of Lloyd Law College, Greater Noida, regarding the incident. All the accused belong to this college. “We have informed the college through mail since the four of the accused belong to the institution. We are waiting for a reply from their side. Any action from our side will come after the police completes its investigation,” Suresh Kumar, Director (Operations) told TOI.
Sources in the hostel management have also said that Aman, the first year student of Noida International University (NIU) student, was smoking and drinking in his room, on the day of the alleged incident. This was however refuted by the family. Ashwani Kumar, SHO, Knowledge Park police station told TOI that they are studying the CCTV footage to examine the sequence of events.
