Power shut off for 4 hrs, Noida struggles with water supply

Noida: It wasn’t just the rain. On Thursday morning, several sectors of Noida went without

power

for up to four hours. The outage was the result of a precautionary shutdown by the power department, according to officials.

“There was no power in our sector since 7am, so we didn’t get any water supply.

Residents

had to manage with stored water,” said Vimal Sharma, RWA president, Sector 50.

Sharma added that no trees were pruned in the sector in a long time despite many complaints. “Wires have been hanging overhead with overgrown trees and shrubs. A big tree fell near Kothari International school lane due to heavy rain this morning, delaying power supply further,” he said.

While Gaurav Soni, a resident of Amrapali Zodiac, Sector 120, complained about outages in the society since early morning, other residents were angered as they couldn’t use any of the lifts in the complex.

At the city’s hub, the Sector 18 market, business suffered since early morning as there was no power across all blocks and submerged poles and panel boxes made the situation worse. “We have made innumerable complaints to Noida authority, but there’s no respite,” said S K Jain, president, market association, Sector 18.

A K Singh, superintending engineer PVVNL, division 2 and 3, told TOI that a precautionary shutdown was carried out from 6.30am to 10.30am following heavy showers on Thursday morning. “We face major problems when there’s a thunderstorm. Today (Thursday), we took a precautionary shutdown as the city faced its first heavy showers. The supply was restored fully by 11am everywhere, barring one to two sectors, where local faults took additional time,” said Singh
