Power pole on road sparks safety fears in Ghaziabad’s Kavi Nagar, locals call for its relocation
Ghaziabad: Residents of Kavi Nagar have raised concerns about road safety, citing poor visibility and hazardous conditions. At the centre of the concerns is a double electricity pole located directly in front of KK 21, which residents argue poses a significant hazard. The pole, installed during a road widening project, is blocking visibility, leading to unsafe driving conditions. The recent accident in Noida, where a man lost his life after his vehicle fell into a deep pit, has intensified the call for improvements.
"Pedestrians are forced to walk in the middle of the road, risking their lives, as vehicles are barely able to navigate past the said pole. Current estimates suggest that approximately 500 pedestrians and 1,000 vehicles traverse this stretch daily," said Rajiv Kumar Agarwal, a resident of the area. The situation has worsened due to ongoing road conditions. "After the Jal Nigam dug up sections of the road for pipeline installation months ago, an abundance of debris remains scattered. This leads to frequent dust clouds generated by passing vehicles," said Bhupendra Singh, another resident of the area.Agrawal further added that the lack of footpaths leaves pedestrians vulnerable. "Despite numerous complaints lodged with local authorities, no significant action has yet been taken to address these issues," he said.Compounding the problem, traffic at the intersection leading from Kavi Nagar Ramlila Maidan to Shastri Nagar has become increasingly congested. Residents have urged the Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation as well as the power department to take necessary action, starting with the relocation of the double electricity pole in front of KK 21, followed by the installation of surveillance cameras at the Kavi Nagar-Shastri Nagar intersection to enforce road safety and monitor vehicles emitting smoke. A response from the officials is awaited on the matter.
