Power cuts in Noida as transformers break down

Massive power cuts have been reported from Noida as several power transformers in a number of substations have broken down over the last couple of days. According to the power corporation, at least six transformers, managed by a private maintenance firm, have broken down due to increase in load. The corporation, apart from penalizing the company, has asked it to replace the transformers.
According to officials of Uttar Pradesh Power Corporation Limited, as electricity load increased over the past two days due to the dip in temperatures, the power transformers in the substations in Sectors 10, 61 and 71, Khoda and Sorkha, among others, caught fire due to heavy load.
