Noida set for power infra revamp of nearly Rs 900 crore
Noida: The city is set to undergo Rs 892 cr power infra works planned under the Centre's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS) in Noida and is expected to complete by 2027. This also includes the construction of 19 new 33/11 kV substations, augmentation of 32 transformers along with 12 new ones of 10 MVA and installation of 114 transformers of 63 KVA to 400 KVA at different substations, along with the work of laying new 11 kV cables for 333 km in different parts of the city such as Sectors 63, 65, 80, 104, 117, 124, 126, 138, 140."We currently have 83 substations in Noida with over 300 transformers in different parts of the city. We will also construct new 11 kV lines for about 332.97 km through open trench (digging a trench to install utility lines) and overhead, trenchless methods. Other works include feeder bifurcations, construction of 33 kV new GIS (gas insulated switchgear) bay etc," Harish Bansal chief zonal engineer of Noida power department told TOI.The construction of new 33 kV lines is proposed in Sectors l65, 72, 74. Construction of 11KV lines is proposed in Sectors 39, 42, 59, and 62 and distribution transformers are also proposed in Sectors 46, 37, 108, 124, and 126.While these are long-term works which will be done between 2025 to 2027, they will run parallel to works planned for the upcoming summer. The power department is awaiting the approval of Rs 150 cr budget proposal submitted to PVVNL's Meerut headquarters. Bansal added that in the meanwhile they are identifying areas where infra needs augmentation apart from trimming vegetation around high and low tension lines of 33 kV, 11 kV and .4 kV. Despite the various upgrade announcements, residents remain sceptical given past experiences. Sushil Kumar, a resident of Sector 56 stated that a slight strong wind or mild showers exposes the infra upgrade claims as long to short outages occur on such occasions.
