NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: The second phase of the

Covid-19 vaccination drive

for frontline workers in Noida is set to kick off on Thursday. In Gautam Budh Nagar district, a total of 5,750 frontline workers are expected to be inoculated on the first day.

About 1,008 frontline workers had already received the shots on February 5, which was the final day of the first phase of

vaccination drive

for the health care workers.

The district will have 46 session sites across its 20 centres. While 14,500 doses of Covaxin have been received, the first day will see only Covishield doses being administered to officers from the CISF, ITBP and the district panchayati raj (DPRO) department. Covaxin doses will be given from February 12 to 18 and a mop-up round will be held on February 22. “We have made all preparations for Thursday. About 5,750 recipients are expected to be vaccinated on that day — 125 per session site,” said Dr Neeraj Tyagi, district immunisation officer (DIO) in-charge of Covid vaccine in Gautam Budh Nagar.

He added that on Friday, there will be 45 session sites. However, the number of frontline workers slated to be vaccinated that day is yet to be determined. “Out of these, at 10 session sites, Covishield will be given while at the remaining 35 sites, we will start giving Covaxin doses,” he said. About 1,008 frontline workers have already been vaccinated on February 5, which was the final day of the first phase drive for healthcare workers.

Meanwhile, Ghaziabad has received the first lot of 14,570 Covaxin doses. The second phase in the city, which began on February 5, will continue on Thursday and Friday. About 8,000 frontline workers at 70 session sites (35 per day) are expected to receive their first shots on these two days.

However, inoculating municipal corporation’s sanitation workers, about 4,500, is proving to be a major challenge for the health department as most of them are reluctant about getting the vaccine. On February 5, only 20 out of 625 workers had turned up for the drive.

According to officials, as per the government’s guideline, recipients will be required to sign a consent form before vaccination.

Complete information about the Bharat Biotech-developed Covaxin is given in the consent form. It has also been explained that the clinical efficacy of the vaccine is yet to be established and it is still being studied in the phase three clinical trial.

It further mentions that in case of any side-effects from the vaccine, the government will provide treatment in the identified hospitals. Even after vaccination, it is necessary to take Covid-19 related precautions, it says. The letter also states that the compensation for any serious side-effects will be provided by the sponsor, if those are causally linked to the vaccine.

Along with this, information has been sought from recipients on nine points, including those related to chronic diseases, undergoing antibody therapy for Covid-19 in the last three months, taking any type of vaccination in the past 28 days, pregnancy and undergoing radiotherapy, among others.

The letter also states that two doses of the vaccine will be administered to the beneficiary. Senior health officials said that Covaxin is completely safe and if there is any case of any side effect, there will be complete arrangement for providing treatment at the vaccination centres.
