NOIDA: Struggling for basic amenities like proper roads and safer drinking water since 2019, residents of Defence Enclave in Sector 44 have scribbled on their society walls and outside the builder's office to register their protest. The society is home to 3,000 residents.

According to the residents, they are reeling under the problem of poor drainage network, which has resulted in water gushing out of broken sewers and inundating the society's broken roads. "We still don't have a proper drainage system in the society," said Vivek Kumar, a resident.

Despite paying Rs 10,000 each to the builder for Ganga water supply, residents allege they are forced to depend on borewell water for their daily needs. "The borewell water is unfit for consumption but what to do?" said Rahul Kumar Singh, another resident.

According to the residents, thieves often target houses in the society due to lax security and guards are hardly seen doing their job properly. "Also the society doesn't have functional CCTV cameras. We get to know about the thieves from CCTV cameras installed in individual houses," said another resident.

"We have staged protests for basic amenities several times, but all our demands have only fallen on deaf ears. The builder has never paid any heed to our basic needs," said Avatar Singh Bedi, another resident of the society.

Despite repeated attempts, the builder could not be contacted.
