NOIDA: The motive for the murder of
Sunil Kashyap, the brother-in-law of a BSP Rajya Sabha MP, was money. Police said that the accused Vicky, a Kasna resident, was inspired by the burgle-and-burn gang that has committed many crimes in south Delhi and had disconnected the pipeline of an LPG cylinder to set the house on fire after murdering Sunil.
SP (city) Anant Dev Tiwari said Vicky meticulously planned the murder.
The accused had borrowed Rs 50,000 from Sunil, who had since been demanding that he return the money. However, Vicky refused to oblige, citing his poor financial status. Irked by repeated reminders, he decided to get rid off Sunil.
“He had planned that the flat would catch fire after Sunil’s wife Poonam returned home and lighted a matchstick or lighter. However, his plans failed to materialize as a few windows of the flat were left open. He was inspired by the burgle-and-burn gang that set government flats in south Delhi on fire before decamping with the booty,” Tiwari said.
Police on Tuesday had recovered Sunil’s body from his sector 82 flat. Vicky, the grandson of Poonam’s uncle, has since been arrested. SHO (phase II) Sudhir Tyagi said, “The deceased had two children, one studying in upper KG while the other in class I at Central School. One of the children returns from school by bus while Sunil used to bring his second kid home. The murder was committed between 3.30 and 4.30pm.” He said Vicky went to Sunil’s residence and soon an argument over his failure to return the money ensued. Soon the tiff turned violent as Vicky locked the children in another room and attacked Sunil with a kitchen knife, inflicting fatal injuries.
Poonam, who works with Noida Authority, returned at 6:15pm only to find the doors locked from outside. Later, she found her husband lying in a pool of blood and the children locked. She called her relatives and informed the police, Tyagi said. SSP (Gautam Budh Nagar) Jyoti Narayan said the children have narrated the grisly details of the murder to the police.
