Month-long traffic drive begins in Noida

NOIDA: The traffic police has launched a month-long

drive

against traffic violators after a direction from the Director General of Police (DGP).

In a communication to the traffic police of all the districts in the state, the DGP said that out of the total number of accidents occurred in the country, Uttar Pradesh has reported the sixth highest number of accidents. However, the number of deaths by accidents are the highest in UP.

“There have been directions from the office of the Director General for following of traffic rules and signals time to time, but it has been noted that effective enforcement is not being undertaken at the district level,” the letter said. The letter directed the traffic police to issue maximum challans to traffic violators.

The Gautam Budh Nagar traffic police is aiming for a target of Rs 1 crore this month. The drive will focus on commuters who indulge in 11 kinds of

traffic violations

, including drunken driving, driving without licence, driving on wrong side, and rash driving.

“Over 100 licences have been seized in the last three days. We have also issued over 300 challans,”

SSP Dharmendra Yadav

told TOI.
