Mind your headache, it could be more than just that, say doctors

Noida: Headaches are rising among the urban population with increased workload and use of electronic devices such as laptops and phones, according to doctors. There are around 300 types of headaches, they said, adding that some of them could be symptoms of strokes and brain tumours as well.
“Having a headache over four times a month can be worrisome and requires medical attention. Headaches are common and can indicate various factors such as stress, anxiety, or underlying medical conditions like migraines. Notably, severe headaches may be associated with more serious issues such as stroke and brain tumours,” said Dr. Sonia Lal Gupta, a senior neurologist at Metro Hospital.
Migraines and cluster headaches are among the most common types. Cluster headaches occur in cycles for weeks and need more than just medication. It requires physiotherapy support as well, the neurologist said. Constant usage of laptops and mobile phones disturbs the body posture, which subsides only temporarily with heavy usage of painkillers.
Dr Dinesh Samuj, head of physiotherapy at Metro headache clinic, said, "Medicines alone to subside the pain are not enough. Posture correction, manual therapies, joint mobilization, targeted exercises, neck stabilizing exercises, trigger point releases, and modifications in lifestyle can lead to a headache-free life.”
According to reports from the World Health Organization, about half of the adults globally experience headaches annually.
