Noida: A minor argument over buying eggs turned fatal on Sunday night in Salarpur village. A 30-year-old daily wage worker was stabbed to death by an acquaintance following a heated altercation at a roadside egg stall.
Police identified the deceased as Rajan Shah, a native of Mohammadpur village in Bihar's Chhapra district. He had been living in rented accommodation in Salarpur for the past few years and worked as a daily wage labourer. The accused, Suresh, from Haranai Rainyana in Bihar's Motihari district, also lived in the same locality and was known to Rajan.
The incident occurred around midnight when the two men met at an egg cart in Salarpur. A verbal spat broke out between them over payment or turn, which soon escalated into a scuffle. In a fit of rage, Suresh allegedly grabbed a knife from the vendor's cart and stabbed Rajan multiple times.
Eyewitnesses said Rajan collapsed on the road as Suresh fled. Locals informed the police and the victim's family, and Rajan was rushed to a nearby hospital, where doctors declared him dead. The body was sent for postmortem, which confirmed death due to stab injuries.
Additional deputy commissioner of police (ADCP) Sumit Shukla said, "The accused was arrested within hours of the incident. Based on the complaint filed by the victim's brother, a case of murder has been registered under relevant sections of the BNS. The murder weapon, a knife used during the assault, has also been recovered from the accused's possession."
Police teams conducted a search in Salarpur and apprehended Suresh late Sunday night. Forensic evidence has been collected from the crime scene, and CCTV footage from nearby areas is being examined.
Three to four video clips of the incident, reportedly filmed by bystanders, surfaced on social media soon after the murder. One shows a crowd gathered in a narrow lane, while others capture people running in panic. Police said they are verifying the authenticity of these videos and urged the public not to share unverified content.
Police arrested the accused within hours and recovered the weapon used in the crime.
