Man kills brother over 28L land compensation dispute

Noida: A dispute over the distribution of Rs 28 lakh land compensation allegedly led to the murder of a 32-year-old man in the Rabupura police station area of Greater Noida. His body was found in a sugarcane field in Kalupura village on Sunday.The man was identified as Sukhdev Sharma. His father, Suresh Chand Sharma, said that about three-quarters of a bigha of their land had been acquired for a project. He had received Rs 28 lakh in compensation, which he distributed between his sons. Since Harkesh was married, Suresh gave him an additional Rs 3 lakh. However, he was dissatisfied with it and demanded the entire compensation amount. He repeatedly threatened Sukhdev to give up his share. The family quarrelled frequently over it. Due to this persistent tension, family members said Sukhdev had shifted to Faridabad. He started working there in a private company. He would visit his family occasionally. But every visit would be marked by a fight between the brothers. Suresh alleged that on multiple instances, Harkesh had even threatened to kill Sukhdev. Sukhdev had returned home earlier this month. On Feb 17, he left his house to water his family's farms in the morning but did not return home. When he did not come back until late night, the family began searching for him. They were unable to trace him. On Sunday, a few villagers spotted his body lying near a canal in a field and alerted the police. Based on the father's complaint, police registered a case against Harkesh, his son Himanshu, and his father-in-law Anil. Police said Sukhdev was attacked with a sharp weapon, and preliminary investigation suggests his own brother was involved in the murder.Police took Harkesh's wife, Umesh and her father, Anil, into custody on Monday. However, Harkesh and Himanshu remain absconding. Police teams are conducting raids in Haryana and nearby areas to trace the duo.Officials at the Rabupura police station said efforts are underway to arrest the remaining accused and uncover the full sequence of events.The family has alleged negligence on the part of the police.
