NOIDA: A Delhi resident was arrested in Greater Noida with cash worth around Rs 37 lakh, police said on Thursday. The income tax department was informed about the seizure.
Police said the man was identified as Jitesh Talwar, a resident of Krishna Nagar in Delhi. He was travelling in an SUV along with his wife when cops from the Sector Beta 2 police station intercepted his vehicle near the Chuhadpur underpass on Wednesday night.
“We had a tip off that a man was travelling with unaccounted cash. A team was formed and the car in which he was moving intercepted. The man and his wife in the XUV 500 were carrying Rs 37 lakh in cash. They said they were on their way to Punjab,” a senior officer said.
Initial investigation revealed that Talwar was a salaried employee who had sold his flat in Greater Noida and got the money. He is, however, being probed for suspected tax evasion. An investigation has been initiated.
