NOIDA: The
National Green Tribunal on Wednesday asked UP’s pollution control board to list all factories and workshops present along NH-91 on its website, while hearing a plea on the rising incidence of cancer cases in six villages in Greater Noida’s Bisrakh block.
The petition, filed by Greater Noida-based environmental activist Yogesh Nagar, contended that groundwater in the region was being contaminated by discharge of industrial effluents.
“The court asked the PCB to list all factories on its website. Groundwater contamination in this area has been a long-standing issue,” said Rahul Chaudhary, the lawyer representing Nagar.
A senior PCB official said, “Factories in the region have been on our radar for the last two years. There are at least 18-20 bug industries in the region. All the approved factories have effluent treatment in place. However, many landlords have formed unauthorized workshops in their spare land, which may not be adhering to safety norms. We are now in the process of listing these. But not all factories create water-based effluents...”
