Noida: A Gautam Budh Nagar district and sessions court on Thursday sentenced a man to life imprisonment for killing his wife with an iron rod and a spade in Rabupura’s Mirzapur village in 2012.
The man allegedly had a history of harassing and torturing his wife. They were married for 15 years and have five children. According to additional district government council

Rohtash Sharma

, the woman’s father

Shahabuddin

filed a complaint against his son-in-law

Bashruddin

, then 40 years old, on September 19 that year.
Earlier that week, 35-year-old Amannisha’s family brought her back to her native home in Rithori village in GB Nagar. Apparently angered, Bashruddin took her back to Rabupura the next day.
Amannisha’s family later learnt that Bashruddin had attacked her.
“We rushed to her in-laws’ place and found her dead. Bashruddin and his family had fled by then,” Shahabuddin said in his complaint.
Police later arrested Bashruddin and recovered the murder weapons – an iron rod and a spade – from his possession. A charge sheet was filed against him in March 2013. Dr Mohit Saxena, who carried out the autopsy, confirmed that the victim had received multiple wounds on her face and body.
During the hearing, police and Amannisha’s family testified against the accused. Bashruddin pleaded his innocence and denied the charges against him.
On Thursday, additional sessions judge

Ved Prakash Verma

convicted Bashruddin under Section 302 (murder) of the IPC and sentenced him to life imprisonment. The court also fined him Rs 20,000 and said the convict will have to serve an additional three months in jail if he fails to pay the amount.
“The court has found that the man had attacked his wife with a rod and a spade. He knew that such a fatal attack would lead her to death. The prosecution lawyer has proved Bashruddin’s involvement in his wife’s murder,” the court said in its judgment.
