How to sort waste? Noida drive after low Swachh score
Noida: After getting a low score of 71% under source segregation of waste category in Swachh Survekshan 2023, the annual cleanliness survey conducted by the Union ministry of housing and urban affairs (MoHUA), the Authority has kick-started a waste segregation awareness programme from January 20.Lokesh M, CEO of Noida Authority, said, “The awareness campaign is being conducted across 13 sectors --- 30, 33, 34, 52, 61, 72, 93 B, 105, 108, 112, 116, 117 and 122.”According to officials, the waste collection vehicles will have five partitions based on categories including wet, dry, e-waste, hazardous waste, and sanitation waste. Residents must hand over waste as per the categories.Meanwhile, the residents have requested the Authority to send waste collection vehicles in two shifts during the awareness campaign. The RWAs have also requested a CSR fund for installing composting machines for processing the wet waste collected from the households.“The residents should make sure that the waste is not dumped in the open in the sectors. The RWAs were also asked to run a campaign against single-use plastic and instead use biodegradable carry bags,” Noida CEO Lokesh said.Officials also added that all the bulk waste generators that generate more than 100 kg of waste every day must install a composting facility within their campuses. “After processing the wet waste, the dry waste is to be sent for reuse and recycling to MRF centres, while the e-waste and hazardous waste must be handed over to agencies associated with the Noida authority for scientific management,” CEO Lokesh said. The theme of Swachh Sarvekshan 2024 is to be based on reduce, reuse, and recycle. The annual cleanliness survey by the MoHUA, is conducted in coordination with the Quality Council of India, under the Swachh Bharat Mission-Urban (SBM-U).
