“During an internal investigation carried out by the party, it came to light that Ghaziabad district president Prem Chand Bharati had indulged in irregularities in the distribution of tickets for the seats of councillors in the local body polls. He has been expelled with immediate effect,” Bobby said. “Senior party worker Binod Pradhan has been made BSP Ghaziabad district president,” he added.

Speaking to TOI, Bharati said he had no knowledge about his expulsion and that it had not been conveyed to him officially. “I have not been informed about my expulsion from the party at an official level,” he said.

Bharati’s supporters, meanwhile, hinted at a political conspiracy against him as the reason behind his expulsion. “Bharati’s expulsion has more to do with BSP’s dismal performance in the local body polls. He has been made the scapegoat for the party’s poor performance,” a BSP worker said. BSP managed to bag just 13 seats out of 100 in the recently-concluded Ghaziabad Municipal Corporation polls, finishing third behind BJP and Congress.

Apart from Bharati, BSP has also cracked the whip on Hapur district president Kunwar Pal, who has also been expelled from the party on similar charges. Tilak Chowdhary will be the new Hapur district BSP president, party workers said.
