Ghaziabad: GMC has initiated development work worth Rs 227 crore, with officials saying work across 100 wards will begin by March.Around Rs 6 crore will be spent on the city's beautification, while around Rs 32 crore has been earmarked for solid waste management plants. The corporation has also set aside Rs 30 crore to improve air quality.
According to air quality analysis data by Centre for Research on Energy and Clean Air (CREA), Ghaziabad has been ranked as the most polluted city in the country in Jan 2026. It had a monthly average PM2.5 concentration of 184 μg/m³ and breached the daily National Ambient Air Quality Standards (NAAQS) every day of the month. The city experienced 24 ‘very poor' days, four ‘severe' days, two ‘poor' days, and one ‘moderate' day."Rs 30 cr will be spent to improve air quality in the city, which includes construction of drains, RCC roads, interlocking tiles, etc," a GMC official said. The corporation will revamp the road and sewer network in Nyay Khand 1. This project will cost Rs 17 crore. The stretch opposite the Supertech Apartment is in bad shape. The road has been dug up and sewer water is spilling out in the open. A resident of the Apartment, Ashish Kumar, said, "One side of the stretch has been closed down. Traffic is moving sluggishly on the other half of the stretch. It is also riddled with potholes. It seems that after digging up the entire stretch, GMC forgot and residents are forced to bear the brunt of this civic apathy.Under the CM Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme-Urban Phase 2, six roads are going to be revamped in the trans-Hindon areas of Indirapuram, Vaishali and Kaushambi. In Indirapuram, the stretches begin from Bala Ji Mandir to NH9 through Kaveri Marg, and from NH9 to Balaji Mandir through Kala Patthar. The length of the stretch will be about 4 km. The Kala Patthar to Shaheed Capt Mangal Pandey Marg through Sushila Naiya Marg is about 2 km in length.Likewise, from Kala Patthar to Shaheed Capt Mangal Pandey Marg through Kasturba Gandhi Marg, the length is 1.8 km. The fourth stretch in Indirapuram is Sushila Naiya Marg to Kala Patthar through Shipra Mall, with a length of 1 km, which will be developed.Under the CM Green Road Infrastructure Development Scheme-Urban Phase 1, directions were issued to complete the work in three months. "The two stretches—Sheshnag Dwar to Hindon Elevated Road and Mohan Nagar Bus Stand to Hindon IAF Station—will be ready in three months," the official said.
