Girl dies after 4th-floor jump, kin slam police

NOIDA: The 18-year-old girl, who had allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of a building in Wajidpur on April 24, succumbed to her injuries on Thursday around 6 am.


The family members of the girl Preeti Yadav did not allow the police to take her body for autopsy till her accused fiancé is arrested. As around 100 villagers gathered at the Shivalik hospital in Sector 51, where the girl was kept on life support system for past one week, the body could be picked up for autopsy only after about nine hours of her death.

Preeti had allegedly jumped from the fourth floor of her relative’s house as she was upset over the last-minute demand from her fiancé Rohit Yadav’s family for a Scorpio SUV. Rohit belonged to Sorkha village in Sector 115. “We hoped that she would survive. She had briefly spoken but her speech was unclear. However, around 6 am on Thursday, we were told that Preeti was no more. Police did not even attempt to record her statements,” said Preeti’s cousin Gaurav.

alleged that instead of arresting the accused, police claimed that they had complained against the accused for want of money. “On April 26, when I went to meet the local chowki in-charge Virender Sharma and asked why the accused was not arrested, he said that I wanted to get out the money from Rohit’s family with the help of this case,” said Chaman Lal.

On Thursday around 2.30 pm, the city magistrate and SP (city) arrived at the hospital and assured the protesters of arresting the accused within 24 hours.

. However, Sharma denied the allegations levelled upon him.

Meanwhile, Dr Ravi Mohta, the director of the hospital said that although, a lot of cops had arrived at the hospital, the district administration should ensure that such protests happen elsewhere and not disturb the functioning of the hospital. “The villagers were agitated and despite being peaceful, a lot of cops had to gather to control the crowd. Their demands were from the police and the administration, not the hospital. So, they should hold the protest elsewhere,” he said.
