Giriraj to garment exporters: Set sights on 30% growth
Noida: Union textiles minister Giriraj Singh on Monday asked the garment exporters of Gautam Budh Nagar to work towards raising annual apparel exports to Rs 75,000 crore by 2030.
While speaking at an export award ceremony, organised by Noida Apparel Export Cluster (NAEC), Singh said the industry should "plan for at least 30% growth" from the current export level of around Rs 55,000 crore.
"We must move with a clear target. Noida's apparel exports can reach Rs 75,000 crore," he said, adding that the Centre is taking steps to strengthen raw material availability and global market access.
The minister announced that production of six types of fibres, including cotton, jute, silk, wool, coir, and synthetic fibres (polyester/viscose), would soon be scaled up in the country to "ensure better supply" for the textile and garment industry.
He also said India has recently signed free trade agreements with 22 countries and now has such agreements in place with 56 countries, opening up new export opportunities.
Emphasising the role of women in the garment sector, Singh said their participation has been significant and “should increase further to strengthen the industry’s base”.
Later, exporters excelling in different garment categories were honoured with awards and recognition.
NAEC president Lalit Thukral said that despite global challenges such as US tariffs, Russia–Ukraine war, tensions in West Asia and shifting US trade policies, Noida exporters have continued to perform strongly.
“Geopolitical instability has disrupted supply chains, increased freight costs and created uncertainty in key markets. Tariff measures and changing trade regimes have put pressure on margins. But Noida’s apparel exporters have shown resilience by diversifying markets, strengthening compliance and focusing on value-added products,” he said.
Thukral added that the industry is exploring emerging markets in Europe, Australia, the Middle East and Latin America, expressing confidence that with govt support, the export target is achievable.
