Ghaziabad sees 2L new voter requests, 65k more seeking corrections
Ghaziabad: More than two lakh applications for the inclusion of new voters and over 65,000 forms seeking corrections in voter details are currently under process in Ghaziabad as part of the special intensive revision (SIR) programme 2026.Officials said that special camps were organised across polling stations in the district on Sunday to collect Form 6, meant for new voter registration, and Form 8, used for changes in details such as name, address and other particulars.
Meanwhile, hearings of unmapped voters (1.5 lakh) and those who were served notices due to logical discrepancies (5.7 lakh) are under way, with 2.7 lakh hearings held and 3.5 lakh notices served in Ghaziabad so far.District magistrate (DM) Ravidra Mander told TOI, "Apart from notices to unmapped voters, voters whose details showed logical discrepancies — such as father's age gap being only 15 years or over 10 people having the same fathers' name and so on — are also being served notices. Hence, a total of 7.3 lakh notices have to be served in Ghaziabad, of which we delivered over 3.5 lakh and the rest are under way."According to the district election office, the drive is being carried out under directions of the Election Commission of India to update and purify the electoral roll ahead of the eligibility date of Oct 1.Booth level officers remained present at their respective polling stations from 10.30am to 1.30pm with voter lists highlighting no mapping and logical discrepancies and assisted eligible citizens in filling out the required forms along with declaration forms and supporting documents.Citizens who turned 18 years of age or will attain 18 years by Oct 1 were encouraged to submit Form 6 during the claims and objections period, which will continue until March 6.The administration ensured the availability of forms 6, 7 and 8 at all polling stations, with dedicated help desks set up to guide applicants. The process is being supervised by the district magistrate, supervisory officers and electoral registration authorities. Form 7 is meant for applications to object to someone's name in the electoral roll. Applicants whose names are missing from the voter list can obtain and submit forms through their designated BLOs, at tehsil offices or the district election office. Online applications for Form 6, Form 7 and Form 8 can also be submitted through the ECINET mobile app and the Commission's official voter services portal.Additional district magistrate (finance/revenue) and deputy district election officer Saurabh Bhatt said the special campaign aims to ensure that no eligible voter is left out and that errors in the electoral roll are corrected in time.In Uttar Pradesh, the Election Commission extended the deadline for filing claims and objections under the ongoing SIR exercise. Voters can now submit forms 6, 7 and 8 until March 6 to add their names, seek corrections or request deletions from the electoral rolls. The earlier deadline was Feb 6. The Election Commission will dispose of all claims and objections by March 27, after which the final electoral roll will be published on April 10.
