NOIDA: To curb absenteeism among teachers of primary schools in GB Nagar, the district basic education department has devised a means to check attendance through designated WhatsApp groups in each block, where the school register will be posted daily.
The move, which began in Dankaur block on Tuesday, noted 80% attendance of teachers for a total of 138 registered schools. The same format is to be implemented across other blocks like Jewar, Dadri and Bisrakh, officials said.
“We have been noticing a lot of absenteeism among teachers since the schools opened post-pandemic from June 16,” Aishwarya Lakshmi, district basic education officer of GB Nagar, said.
“While we are trying to address the issue, an immediate solution was sought in creating a WhatsApp group in Dadri, Jewar, Dankaur and Bisrakh, where teachers in each block will send in their attendance in their respective groups. We have started with the first WhatsApp group for Dankaur,” she said.
