Gangster runs show from jail, with help from prison guards
Greater Noida: Two prison guards entrusted with the responsibility of keeping a watch on dreaded
The crime came to light after Gautam Budh Nagar police arrested Ankit Chowdhary, a Dujana gang member, near Pari Chowk on Thursday night in a vehicle theft case, and found voice notes and messages of Anil Dujana in his mobile phone sent from SIM cards registered in the names of the two guards — constables Shyam and Arvind Kumar.
During interrogation, Ankit told cops that he was running Anil Dujana’s crime syndicate, with the latter being in jail, and had also paid Rs 10,000 to one of the constables for keeping in touch with the gang leader.
The jailed gangster, facing as many as 35 cases of murder, extortion and robbery, recently hogged media limelight for tying the knot with his 22-year-old girlfriend at the district sessions court in Surajpur, where he was brought to for a hearing.
“Ankit who had helped three men rob a Kasna-based architect of his SUV, was arrested with a stolen motorcycle around 11.30 pm on Thursday. We found a knife and a mobile phone in his possession, which contained chat with the two constables who had sent him pictures of handwritten letters of Anil Dujana,” said Vineet Jaiswal, SP (rural).
“He revealed the names of the two constables during interrogation and claimed to have transferred Rs 10,000 to one of the prison guards’ bank account,” he added.
According to the police officer, the chats and letters indicated that Dujana gave instructions to his man on various land deals and regarding a transaction of Rs 20 lakh from a person. “We are currently investigating the content of the recovered chats and letters,” said Jaiswal.
Ramphal Singh, SHO of Kasna police station, said the two constables have been booked under sections 35 (act being done with a criminal knowledge or intention), 37 (co-operation by doing one of several acts constituting an offence), 119 (public servant concealing design to commit offence), and 166 (public servant disobeying law) of IPC.
“They have been slapped with Section 42 of Prison Act and Section 7 of Prevention of Corruption Act too. A probe has been lodged and action will be initiated as per law. We have already informed the jail authorities about their involvement in the crime,” he said.
