NOIDA: Three members of an interstate gang of car thieves were arrested in Noida on Friday. Police said that the gang was operational in Delhi-NCR and was wanted in various cases of vehicle theft.
The arrested were identified as Noor Mohammad, Zahid and Vakeel. Another gang member Manoj managed to flee. The police said that the three were arrested near the City Centre Metro station in Noida after receiving a tip-off.
"The gang was active for the past year and a half and they have confessed to stealing numerous cars," said Preetinder Singh, senior superintendent of police. Two country-made guns were also recovered from them.
The police have been able to recover seven cars from their custody. "They would sell the cars by using fake documents and registration plates. They would open the car using a master key or by breaking the window of the car and keep the vehicles in vacant parking lots. They would change the colour and sell old cars to scrap dealers," added Singh.
