NOIDA: As part of the ‘Mission Amrit Sarovar’ initiative of the Union government, the Gautam Budh Nagar zila panchayat will rejuvenate five ponds in the district in the next one year. Areas around the Amrit Sarovar (ponds) will also be developed as picnic spots at a cost of Rs 3 crore, officials said.

Dharamjeet, additional chief zila panchayat officer, GB Nagar, said, “While two of these ponds are in Naudora and Chiti in Jewar, the other three are in Bisrakh, Tatarpur and Chaisa, respectively. Of these five ponds, Chaisa and Naudora might also get boating facilities as a tourist attraction once they are ready. The tourism activities will also boost the work opportunities for local people.”

The announcement was made by the GB Nagar zila panchayat on the completion of one year of its tenure on Tuesday.

Officials said the zila panchayat focused on completion of basic infrastructure works, including construction of roads and drains, in the last financial year. In the current financial year, open gyms, sheds for devotees coming to the district for various religious occasions, and installation of streetlights will be given priority, along with infrastructure works.
