Noida: Farmers' stir throws Sec 12/22 diversion plan off track

NOIDA: To decongest the sectors 12/22/56 intersection,

traffic

police on Monday put a diversion at

Shiv Mandir

intersection, closing the road towards Sector 56 and Rajat Vihar. The new diversion, coupled with the

Kisan Kranti Yatra

stalling traffic on Delhi-Ghaziabad borders, led to jams at the intersection and several other areas instead.

In the Monday trial, a part of the Shiv Mandir intersection had been closed to block direct entry of commuters from Sector 57 and 22 towards Sector 56, Khoda and Rajat Vihar, as well as that from Sector 56 and Rajat Vihar to the Shiv Mandir intersection. Those travelling towards Sector 57 and 22 towards Sectors 56 and Rajat Vihar were made to take a U-turn ahead of the sectors 12/22/56 junction.

Similarly, those headed towards the junction from the Sector 56 and Rajat Vihar side were made to take a U-turn between the sectors 22 and 55.

With heavy Monday traffic flowing from sectors 55 and 56 and Khoda towards Noida, traffic was stuck at the sectors 12/22/56 intersection. Snarls were witnessed at the stretch from the intersection to Noida Stadium and Shiv Mandir, as well as at the Jhundpura-Swani Furniture intersection and the Chaura-Prakash Hospital stretch.

Traffic police officers admitted that the trial led to pressure on the sectors 12/22/56 junction as it was the only point where traffic from Ghaziabad and Sector 57 merged.

Traffic inspector Anil Pandey told TOI that with the Ghazipur mandi road facing snarls due to farmers blocking a part of the route, the Delhi traffic police had diverted a part of the traffic on alternate routes near the Delhi-Noida borders, including near

New Ashok Nagar

and Kondli. This caused snarls in those areas as well.

SP (traffic) Anil Jha said the closure of the Shiv Mandir intersection was done only on a trial basis and it will be reviewed within two-three days. “If the problem persists, it can be done away with,” he said.
