Noida: Eight days after a speeding BMW hit four people and killed one in Sector 22, police have still not been able to arrest the driver, Vinod, against whom a chief judicial magistrate's court had issued a non-bailable warrant last week.
On Sunday, police initiated action to declare Vinod a proclaimed offender. Cops pasted a notice at his house in Gharoli in Delhi's Mayur Vihar and also sought the court's permission to initiate action to attach his properties.
Vinod runs a gym in Sector 22. The owner of the BMW he was driving has been traced to Faridabad.
"We sought permission from the court on Friday to initiate action to declare Vinod a proclaimed offender under Section 82 of the CrPC. The court granted permission on Saturday," said Sector 24 SHO Neeraj Singh.
According to a police source, a serious effort wasn't made to nab Vinod as cops were hoping he would give himself up. Vinod had filed a surrender application in the district court on April 18 but hasn't surrendered yet. Singh said, "Efforts are on to nab the accused."
