GREATER NOIDA: After having started the first dedicated dog sterilisation centre at Swarn Nagri in Greater Noida on February 25, the Greater Noida Industrial Development Authority (GNIDA) on Tuesday sterilised and vaccinated 10 dogs in Sector Omicron 2. After sterilisation, dogs were given a colour-coded identification strip with a marking on their ear.
They will be kept at the centre for a mandatory five-day observation period, after which they will be released in the area from where they were picked up.
The cost of sterilisation for each dog comes to Rs 1,000, but RWAs or residents will only have to pay Rs 250 per dog, with the authority bearing the remaining cost. The sum includes sterilisation, vaccination and anti-rabies injections of the stray dogs.
The mission has been called ‘Project Bhairav’ and with it, the authority aims to sterilise all the stray dogs in the city. “The residents of Sector Omicron 2 had deposited Rs 2,500 for the sterilization and vaccination of 10 stray dogs. These dogs have been released after sterilisation and vaccination. The sterilised dogs have been given a blue and pink colour strap around their neck, with a marking cut in their ear. This will distinguish them from other dogs that are yet to be sterilised,” said
Salil Yadav from the public health department, GNIDA.
While the Sector Omicron 2 RWA had deposited the sum for 64 more stray dogs to be sterilised from their sector, Yadav urged all residents and RWAs to come forward and avail the facility, that comes equipped with an operation room, a waiting area, 24-hour staff to look after the dogs and arrangements for AC, refrigerator and drinking water in the operation room. “Any sector or society whose RWA has to sterilize their dogs, they can deposit Rs 250 per dog and schedule the vaccination of stray dogs in their sector," he said.
