On Tuesday, TOI had reported about the lack of maintenance in the Sector 94 post-mortem facility, when rodents had nibbled off parts of the body of 25-year-old Srishti Sharma, an Axis bank assistant manager, who was found hanging in her flat in Pan Oasis society on October 9.

New glass panes have now been put on the windows and welding carried out in the frames, a senior Gautam Budh Nagar health department official said.

“In most UP districts, mortuaries are in a shambles given the lack of budget. The only mortuary in GB Nagar is facing some issues due to its location near the green belt and the presence of animals and reptiles around the area. However, we have got new glass placed on the windows while the frames have been welded,” the official said.

Chief medical officer (CMO) Anurag Bhargava, who had ordered an inquiry into the case, told TOI that letters have been sent to the UP director-general (medical and health) about funds required for purchase of deep freezers to store bodies. “Till that is processed, we are seeking funds from companies ready to invest in the purchase as their corporate social responsibility (CSR),” he said.

TOI had reported that all the five deep freezers at the mortuary were non-functional and at least two ACs were not working.

Besides, the gases emitted by the Shahdara drain nearby damage the electronic items.
