Dadri, Jewar to get two new substations; Rs 70cr plan for summer preparedness
Noida: Two new 33/11 kV substations will be set up in Dadri and Jewar to meet rising electricity demand in rural parts of GB Nagar, with the Noida power department seeking Rs 70 crore from UPPCL for infrastructure upgrades in FY 2026-27. The proposed substations form part of a broader business plan aimed at strengthening the distribution network ahead of summer, when peak demand is expected to cross 3,000 MW.
"To address the increasing demand load of rural areas of GB Nagar district, we plan to build 2 new substations of 33/11 kV capacity each. These will come up in Dadri and Jewar. Proposals for the substations were sent to UPPCL for approval. The substations are part of the overall Rs 70 cr business plans budget sought for FY 2026-27 from the discom headquarters," said Praveen Kumar, executive engineer, Noida power department. Apart from the new substations, the Rs 70 crore outlay will fund capacity enhancement of ageing transformers, replacement of old cables and poles, and bifurcation of feeders in high-load areas. "Some of the works to be done under this amount include capacity enhancement of old, existing transformers, replacement of old cables and poles, and bifurcation of feeders, etc. Most of this work will be done in rural belts of the district, such as Dankaur, Dadri and Jewar, while parts of it will be done in urban areas with dense population," Kumar said. He added that modernisation and infrastructure ramp-up works are already underway in urban areas under the Centre's Revamped Distribution Sector Scheme (RDSS), and both sets of works will run simultaneously. "We are awaiting approval of the Rs 70 cr budget from UPPCL, which is expected by March. Once approval is given, work on building the substations and other repairs will commence," Kumar said.
