Condo residents protest builder’s inaction over safety, infra failures

Noida: Residents of Mahagun Mywoods staged a protest late Sunday night, demanding immediate action from the builder on a range of unresolved issues — from sewage treatment failures and electricity dues to inadequate security and lift malfunctions.The demonstration is the latest in a series of weekend protests on these concerns, previously reported by TOI.Residents have flagged several infrastructure failures, including a non-functional sewage treatment plant (STP1), stalled construction of STP2, malfunctioning lifts, loose electrical infrastructure and neglected common areas. They are also seeking resolution of incomplete flat registries, unpaid water bills, a comprehensive safety audit and accountability for alleged fund misappropriation.Security has emerged as a particular flashpoint, with tower receptions and basement areas left unguarded because the builder has not cleared payments to security agencies. “We have been living in an acute shortage of security guards as their payments have not been cleared by builder maintenance. This poses a grave risk to safety,” said Ashutosh Singh Sikarwar, a resident.Frequent power cuts have added to residents’ frustration. Despite clearing their own bills, many say the builder’s failure to pay electricity dues to NPCL has led to repeated disconnections — an issue TOI reported on March 17. “Despite clearing the bills at our end, the builder maintenance does not clear electricity dues, which often leads to disconnection by the discom,” said Manish Kumar, a resident.TOI reached out to the builder for a comment but did not receive any response.“The sustained neglect of basic facilities, despite us paying all our dues, is unacceptable. We are determined to fight for our rights,” said Mahesh Tanwar, another resident. Anil Verma, a spokesperson for the protesting group, added that demonstrations would continue until all demands were met.Protests are currently planned on weekends as residents seek dialogue with the builder. Builder maintenance and senior management did not respond to requests for comment.
