City of Stench: Sewage swamps city sectors, residents warn of protest
NOIDA: Streets slick with sewage, parks turned into cesspools and an unrelenting stench hanging heavy in the air, this is the daily reality for residents across Sectors 82, 41, 22, 19 and 51, who say repeated complaints about overflowing sewers have brought little relief.
In Sector 82's Pocket 7, frustration has been mounting for months. Bunty Singh, general secretary of the RWA, said sewers in Blocks 28, 25 and 14 have overflowed for several months despite repeated complaints. "No action was taken despite our numerous requests. We urgently need a resolution to this dire situation," Singh stated.
RWA president Raghvendra Dubey said the crisis has dragged on for over two years. "We receive daily complaints about sewer overflow, but it appears that officials are merely going through the motions without effectively addressing the problem," he lamented.
Dubey added that damaged lines in Blocks 23 and 37 were reported a month ago but remain unattended. "Several parks, including Blocks 28 and 29, are filled with sewage, which is also flowing in many areas. For months, assurances were made that an estimate was prepared for a permanent solution to the sewer problem, but nothing was done yet. The sewage overflow is causing serious illnesses. I request the Authority CEO to resolve our problem immediately and take action against the negligent officials," he said, warning of protests.
Col Tej Tikoo from Sector 41 described similar distress. "Many sewers in our sector are overflowing, continuously oozing muck and putrid water onto the streets. The stench created by the oozing overflows made life unlivable for many. It is also a serious health hazard," he said.
Civil department officials inspected Pocket 7 earlier this week and assured prompt action, but residents remain sceptical.
