The victims have been identified as Mahesh Kumar and his 14-year-old son Shonty, from Chhapraula village. They were returning home from Sector 17 and looking for public transportation around 9pm when the car allegedly hit them. “A mini truck had dropped us near Advant building and we were walking towards Pari Chowk in search of some transport,” Mahesh has stated in his complaint filed at Surajpur police station, adding that the car tried to overtake another vehicle from the left side and ended up hitting him and his son.

Mahesh informed police and a team reached the spot and took them to Felix Hospital where they were given first aid. “The boy suffered fracture in his right hand and his father had minor injuries,” said Lokesh Chahal, police post incharge, Sector 143.

The car driver has been booked under IPC sections 279 (rash driving) and 338 (causing grievous hurt by act endangering life or personal safety of others).
