‘Anuj left campus 3-4 wks ago, may have got gun then’
Noida: A case was filed on Saturday under sections of the Arms Act as police tried to trace the source of the .32 bore gun with which third-year undergraduate student Anuj Singh shot his batchmate Sneha Chaurasia at the Shiv Nadar University campus on May 18.Anuj, a senior officer involved in the probe said, had left the university campus around 20-25 days back and may have procured the weapon or at least made some arrangement during that period.“Police are still scanning Anuj’s call details and all the footage from the CCTV cameras installed on the university’s campus and in the vicinity to find out more about his movement. At this point, we can’t be sure if he had visited his home recently,” the officer said. The gun used by Anuj was likely procured from a local supplier as it does not have an ordnance number on it, police said.Around 1.30pm on Thursday, Anuj killed Sneha – both students of sociology – outside a dining hall in the university’s Dadri campus. He then went to a hostel room – not his own – where he turned the gun on himself. The shooting happened around 10 minutes after Anuj mailed a confessional statement, titled ‘my suicide note’, to a university group at 1.18pm on Thursday.According to the FIR, filed late on Friday night, police received a call at 2.27pm from the security in charge of Shiv Nadar University, Rajiv Kumar, informing them that a student had committed suicide. A team of Dadri police along with a senior police officer reached the university’s campus and were taken to the hostel’s room number 328 on the third floor, the FIR, filed by a constable, reads. “A person lying on the stomach, covered with blood, was found on the floor. In order to collect evidence, the FSL team turned him around and saw a pistol of .32 bore with a live cartridge in its chamber. A live cartridge on the floor and two used cartridges were recovered. The gun was collected by the forensic team,” it says. The forensics team collected blood samples, the gun and several other pieces of evidence from the room, it adds. Subsequently, a case under sections 3, 25 and 27 of the Arms Act was registered. No complaint has yet been filed by Sneha’s family.
