A tale of two signboards: Lakes cleaned, fenced off, signboards changed
NOIDA: The
The region which had over last few months had become a central garbage dumping area for the sectors 93 A, B and 137, is now being cordoned off. TOI had reported how the forest area had a board stating, ‘dump your malwa here’. The dump yard was causing major problems to residents of
The garbage had also formed a layer of filth on the twin lakes in the area. Residents in the region who are entirely dependent on ground water, expressed concern that the filth and garbage in the water may contaminate the ground water table, leaving irreparable damage to the water table of the entire region. Temporary garbage dumps in Noida have come up with more and more people shifting to new apartments and with the garbage processing plant at Astoli, Great Noida yet to become fully functional.
“We have cleaned the area, the garbage has been removed, while we cannot remove the construction waste, most of the garbage has been taken out. We have set up a board stating no one should dump garbage here. We are now fencing the area,” Yogendra Harish, Sanitation inspector, officer of Noida authority said.
The residents of Sector 137 expressed hope that that now that their issues are addressed, there should be a strong regulation in place so a rebound doesn’t occur in future. “While cleaning has taken place and a new board has been placed, a fine should also be imposed on anyone who violates the norms,” Nandini Srivastava, resident of paramount Floraville, who had flagged off the issues, said.
“The fencing will ensure no one comes and dumps garbage in the area further. We will ensure cleanliness and sanitary conditions are maintained in the region,” Harish added. However, residents of another part of sector 137, who are situated across the temporary dump-yard at Sector 140A may still have to wait before the garbage is finally shifted from the location to Astoli.
