Greater Noida: Eight members of the notorious Anil Dujana gang were arrested on Thursday when they attacked a police team outside their house in Dujana village. The police were conducting a route march ahead of the upcoming panchayat elections when they came under attack. Two personnel were injured when the gang members pelted stones at them. Some vehicles were also damaged in the incident.
The police seized six SUVs and several illegal weapons from the gang.
According to police, they arrested Naresh, Virendra, Anil, Madan, Titu Nagar, Ravinder, Om Prakash and Chatru after the attack. While Om Prakash is the brother of Anil Dujana, Chatru is his father. Anil Dujana is presently in Banda district jail in connection with several criminal cases. Anil Dujana, Chatru and Om Prakash have filed nomination papers for the upcoming panchayat elections. The gang members have also been threatening rival candidates to withdraw nomination papers or face dire consequences.
Abhishek Yadav, SP (rural), Gautam Budh Nagar, said the police team was conducting a route march in the sensitive areas ahead of the panchayat polls. "The police team was passing via the road in front of Anil Dujana's house in the evening. The gang members soon came out and objected to the route march. They also started pelting stones and damaged the police vehicles," Yadav said.
The police soon raided the house and seized six SUVs parked outside. The seized vehicles include a Toyota Fortuner, Mahindra Scorpio, Mahindra Bolero, Renault Duster and two Mahindra Xylo. The police also seized several weapons including a .315 bore rifle, a 9 mm country-made pistol, a .32 bore country made pistol and 20 cartridges. The rifle license is in the name of one Jasveer, who is absconding.
According to the police, the gang members were campaigning in the village and displaying their muscle power to the voters and rival candidates. The SP said that a rival candidate also complained to the police against the gang. He has been provided police protection.
The police also found a number of of food items, vegetables and cold drink which were supposed to be delivered to voters ahead of elections. "We have seized all the goods and eatables and recommended to the district administration to cancel the candidature of the gang members for violation of model code of conduct," Yadav said.
A case has been registered against the accused under Sections 147, 148, 341, 332, 353, 427 and 34 of IPC in Badalpur police station.
