Ghaziabad: A 78-year-old woman was allegedly attacked by her neighbour with an ice pick on Friday after she refused to give him money to buy liquor.
Police have arrested
Ravinder, a 40-year-old resident of Ramnagar, in connection with the case.
Poonam Mishra, assistant commissioner of police in Nandgram, said that Ravinder would allegedly ask the woman for money to buy alcohol frequently.
"The woman, who lived alone, would often give him money out of affection, except this time. Her refusal enraged Ravinder, and he attacked her with an ice pick before fleeing the scene," said Mishra, adding that the woman sustained injuries from the attack and was immediately rushed to a nearby hospital.
Hospital authorities have said that the woman is currently undergoing treatment and her condition is stable.
Police officials said that Ravindra is currently in police custody and is being interrogated.
"We are also looking into his background for any previous criminal records," he added.
