64-year-old woman dies by suicide in Ghaziabad

Ghaziabad: A 64-year-old woman allegedly died by suicide at a residential society in Kavi Nagar on Monday, police said, adding that depression may have led to the incident.The deceased was identified as Satyawati Singh, a resident of Ashiyana Residency. Police said her body was found around 10.30am in the stairwell area near her flat on the 12th floor after a resident spotted her and alerted others. Police were subsequently informed.A team reached the spot and conducted a preliminary inquiry. The body was later sent for autopsy. ACP (Kavi Nagar) Suryabali Maurya said, “The woman lived in the flat with her son, Neeraj, a businessman, who had stepped out for work at the time of the incident”.Police said that about a year ago, the family had moved to the society after Satyawati’s husband died by suicide. Officers added that she had been under treatment for depression.No written complaint has been received in the case so far, police said, adding that autopsy reports are awaited.
