GREATER NOIDA: Nine persons wanted in various cases of snatching, robbery and kidnapping were arrested in two separate gunfights on Sunday night.
Four of the nine were hit by bullets and are undergoing treatment in hospitals.
Police said the first gunfight took place near the Harka police outpost in TP Nagar. Two men were nabbed while a third managed to escape.
“We received a tip-off about the movement of some accused in the area. We started checking the vehicles. When we asked a Santro car to stop, they tried to speed away instead. Our team surrounded them and they started to fire at us,” additional deputy commissioner of police (central Noida) Elamaran G said.
When the police retaliated, one of the accused was hit by a bullet.
“Two of them were arrested. Abid, who has over two dozen cases registered against him in both Noida and Ghaziabad, suffered a bullet injury and was rushed to the hospital. The other arrested accused was identified as Munesh. A third gang member managed to escape in the dark. We will arrest him soon,” the additional DCP said.
The second shootout took place near the Rajepur underpass under Badalpur police station.
“Our team had information about the gang’s movement in Badalpur area. A group of seven men were travelling in a car and on a bike. The accused were surrounded and asked to surrender. However, they fired at us, which forced us to retaliate. Three of the accused, Budh Prakash, Vikas and Asif, suffered bullet injuries while Vishal, Shaeenuddin, Imran and Deepak were also arrested,” Elamaran G said.
The cops recovered three country-made pistols, three live cartridges, four knives, a car and a bike from their possession.
