Navi Mumbai: A woman residing in old Panvel was duped of Rs 9.7 lakh in a Telegram scam by three cyber crooks, including two women, who offered her remote part-time job. The incident took place between June 9 and 14.
As per the FIR registered on Friday, complainant Tanvi Mandare (42), a BCom graduate, said she had submitted her resume on LinkedIn. On June 7, she got a text on her Telegram account from one Neelam, who offered her remote job.
Neelam impersonated to be from a recruitment firm that pays Rs 1,200 to 1,800 per day for a part time job and Rs 2,200 to 4,200 for full time job. The same day, Mandare received a text from
Shreya Gupta with Telegram account @Shreya154 wherein she was given a task to rate and review hotels.
On June 8, Gupta added Mandare to a Telegram group 'AIRBNB Home Stay' and sent her a link asking for her bank details. On June 9, she was told to rate 30 hotels for Rs 16,000. Later she got a text asking her to transfer Rs 11,000 in order to get her salary. Thereafter again she was offered Rs 14,000 for another task and was made to transfer Rs 11,000. Eventually she ended up paying Rs 9.7 lakh. When she inquired about her salary of Rs 22.8 lakh, Gupta’s aide
Ganesh with Telegram account @Ganeshz1991 asked her to send Rs 9.3 lakh to get the amount. That’s when she realised that she had been duped.
