'Wheel locks don't solve congestion'
NAVI MUMBAI: Double and parallel parking has led to increasing number of traffic snarls across the city, traffic officials said.
The police have been towing vehicles parked in no parking zones, but in some cases they have been forced to use wheel locks or jammers.
"The major problem is that most cars do not have a special hook and screw system for attaching the towing rod to the car.

So, we are forced to use jammers," said Vijay Patil, deputy commissioner of police(traffic). Motorists feel that these methods are counter productive. "The wheel locks create traffic jams. The car can't move until the erring citizen pays the fine, which means he has to go to the chowkie, pay the fine and then come back with a constable to get the car unlocked. Until then the car doesn't vacate the space for traffic. The police have to figure out a better method," said Raman Sharma, a Nerul-based insurance salesman.
