Vashi school offers free education to poor students
NAVI MUMBAI:
The English medium SSC school provides education to 375 kids, who come from an economically poor background. It also offers free books, uniforms, bags, snacks and transport.
The school practically takes care of every need of these children. The second batch of students sat for their SSC board exams this year.
“The school also provides facilities like free bus transport, school bags, books, snacks and uniforms. These students are mostly from Turbhe and Vashi,” said Father Abraham Joseph, principal, St Mary’s High School, Vashi. The students are also provided with Educomp facility (smart class) just like students in the regular schools, he added.
He also said that they generate funds for the students’ bus transport, school bags and other amenities through donations and management also chips in.
They also arrange for counsellings and free seminars. The students also take part in sports and annual day, which are arranged by the school.
When the school was started in 2004, it had 50 underprivileged kids as students. The school starts in the afternoon hours, after the regular school.
When the school started, an NGO had recommended the students for admission. “But now we grant free-of-cost admission to any student who can provide their parents’ income certificate,” said Father Joseph.
